MANITOWOC – Anglers headed to the Lakeshore for a Northeast Wisconsin tradition this weekend.
The 40th annual Salmon Derby is going on in Manitowoc.
Prizes are awarded in multiple categories for the top five fish reeled in during the tournament.
Aside from fishing, people can enjoy live music and entertainment.
Members of the judging panel say the number of fish caught this year is almost double from last year.
“Competition is good. We have a lot of fish being caught this year. Last year, because the fish just weren’t in the mood or whatever, we only registered about 450 fish, and this year we are well over 800 already on our second day,” said Tom Kocourek with Great Lakes Sport Fishermen.
The derby continues through Sunday.
