Carp barrier vandalized at Butte des Morts Conservation Club

WINNECONNE – The Butte des Morts Conservation Club is seeking information about recent vandalism to its carp barrier.

It happened at Terrell’s Island Conservation Area.

Authorities say the carp barrier was destroyed and removed from the breakwall trail sometime in May.

The club is dedicated to the protection and restoration of wetlands on Lake Butte des Morts. Club officials say the carp barrier is needed to keep spawning carp from entering the enclosure.

Since the vandalism occurred, many carp passed into the wetlands and destroyed underwater vegetation for native fish.
