ASHWAUBENON — Kyle Monroe hunted the 3-point line and a teammate found him. Swish!
Later, Monroe once again beyond the arc and after another pass, swish!
Wednesday, Monroe looked like he was in mid-season form during a summer league basketball game against Kimberly and despite it being the summer this is an important time for seniors-to-be like Monroe.
The Ashwaubenon forward is trying to lock down a college scholarship and after leading the Jaguars to a share of the Fox River Classic Conference title last season while leading the conference in scoring (21.7 points per game), Monroe could make a commitment this summer or during the fall.
Last week, Monroe took a trip out west to visit South Dakota, South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Nebraska-Omaha and Air Force and said, “It went pretty well.”
So far, Monroe has two scholarship offers from Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan, but is expecting more as the summer progresses.
“Right now, I’m really just leaving it wide open,” he said. “I’m not really leaning one way or the other right now and I’m sure AAU season in July or sometime after that I’ll start thinking about a decision.
“Definitely would like have a school picked before the regular season so there’s no pressure, you already know what’s happening; you’re done with your high school year, so you can focus completely on that.”
