DNR warns boaters to drive sober

BROWN COUNTY – DNR wardens will be watching boaters closely this weekend.

The three day annual national campaign “Operation Dry Water” began on Friday. It focuses on the importance of staying sober while driving a boat.

Jeremy Corbs with the DNR says it’s about education, as well as keeping boaters safe.

“This weekend is about getting out there and educating people detection and deterring boating under the influence,” Corbs said. “The person operating should be responsible and not drinking at all, because on the water you have a whole bunch of things going on at once even more then what you’d find on a blacktop road.”

The DNR also says most of the 13 people who died in Wisconsin boating incidents in 2013 were not wearing a life jacket.
