The wait wasn’t worth it.
Because of rain Notre Dame’s Division 2 state baseball semifinal game Wednesday against Jefferson was pushed back about five hours from its original 6 p.m. start time.
The wait to play in the state tournament turned out to be nothing what the Tritons hoped for. Jefferson scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning and cut a late evening short by one inning, topping Notre Dame, 11-0, in six innings at Fox Cities Stadium.
Notre Dame (16-12) recorded just one hit, by Ty Yewman, and the last six Tritons batters struck out bringing an end to their season.
The game, which lasted 2 hours, 5 minutes, was scoreless until the fourth inning, when Jefferson (28-3) scored four runs. That was plenty against a Notre Dame offense that struck out 10 times in the game.
