OSHKOSH – Some workers who are getting laid off by Oshkosh Defense were offered some help Thursday.
Twenty-nine companies looking to fill 1,600 positions took part in a job fair strictly for laid-off workers.
Oshkosh Corporation announced in April that about 700 hourly workers and 60 salaried positions would be cut. Because of things like early retirements, the number is now down to about 535.
Oshkosh Corporation organized Thursday’s job fair which focused on production employees.
“There’s a lot of good employers here,” said Ryan Gulbrandsen, Oshkosh Corporation. “There’s quite a few welding jobs for people that are welders, and it seems to be good benefit packages and pay.”
Oshkosh Corporation blamed the layoffs on expiring military contracts.
