APPLETON – An Outagamie County board committee Tuesday endorsed the sale of a county-owned lot to the city of Appleton, which intends to use the site for a convention center.
The 5-0 vote by the Finance Committee sends the issue to the Property Committee next Tuesday. If it endorses the project, the full County Board could vote on it later that night.
The deal would then have to be approved by the Appleton Common Council, likely sometime in July.
Appleton would pay the county $2,062,000 million for the land, plus provide the county with parking spots to make up for those being lost.
The $28 million convention center would be attached to the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel. Increased room taxes in several communities also need to be approved to help pay for the project.
