MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Wisconsin Right to Life executive director Barbara Lyons is retiring after spending 40 years with the anti-abortion organization.
Lyons announced Monday that she would be retiring at the end of the year. She will be replaced as executive director on July 1 by Heather Weininger, who is currently legislative director for the group that has advocated for numerous bills over the years, including one currently being challenged in federal court that requires doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.
Lyons began her career with the group as president of the Milwaukee County chapter for three years, before joining the statewide group’s staff in 1977. She became executive director in 1987.
