GREEN BAY – Thousands of runners took to the streets of Green Bay and Allouez this morning for the 2014 Bellin Run.
Some runners started crossing the finish line right before 8:30 a.m. The overall winner is Allan Kiprono of Kenya. This is his third Bellin Run win. His time was 28:41.
The women’s winner is Risper Gesabwa, also from Kenya. Her time was 32:53.
The run in its 38th year is one of the largest 10K races in the nation. It started at 8 a.m., following with an awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
Race organizers say 18,213 people registered for this year’s race.
Among the elite runners that participated in the Bellin Run is this year’s Boston Marathon winner Meb Keflezighi.
Last year’s top two finishers in both the men’s and women’s fields were also back for 2014.
Lani Rutto Kiplagat and Allan Kiprono finished one and two in the men’s division last year. Kiplagat grabbed the top spot with a time of 29:12.
In the elite women’s field, Risper Gesabwa and Millicent Kuria will be returning after finishing in first and second place last year. Gesawba’s 2013 win was her second consecutive win. Her time was 32:58.
