MADISON, Wis. (AP) – The Dane County district attorney’s office has cleared Madison police who shot and killed an armed woman in her apartment last month.

District Attorney Ismael Ozanne said Monday that 26-year-old Ashley DiPiazza was shot early on May 18 after she walked toward officers Justin Bailey and Gary Pihlaja while holding a gun to her head.

Ozanne says DiPiazza had ignored commands to drop the weapon before officers fired.

Officers had been called to the apartment on a domestic disturbance report.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports the district attorney’s office found that the officers were justified in using deadly force.
