GRAND CHUTE – Aramis Ramirez hasn’t appeared in a baseball game of any kind since leaving the Brewers game on May 10th with a hamstring injury. The Brewers third baseman made a rehab start for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday. Ramirez said it was important to get game action in before he stepped back to the big league lineup. “Major league pitching is pretty good so I want to see some pitches before I step into major league action,” Ramirez said.

He saw some pitches Sunday, six to be exact, as Ramirez went 0-2 at the plate including a swinging strikeout. He admitted he doesn’t like going on rehab assignments but a game like this is proof he needs to.

“The 90 looked like 110 because I haven’t played in a while but it happens. That’s why I came here, because I want to see some pitches and like I said, hopefully I get more than two at bats tomorrow,” Ramirez said with a grin.

He was originally scheduled to get three or four at bats and play about six innings of the game. Multiple weather delays kept him from getting in the game action he had hoped for. That’s a small setback in the grand scheme of things.

The 16-year big league veteran has said he’s been able to remain patient during the process of getting healthy because of what his Brewers teammates have been able to do on the field without him.

“It’s a lot easier when they play the way they’ve been playing. We’re in first place,” Ramirez said. Ramirez is batting 252 with five homeruns and 21 RBI this season in 123 at bats. He’s excited for the chance to return to the field with his big league brethren, even if they are playing okay without him. “You can always help and you want to be out there with your team but when they win it’s a lot easier to take your time and get healthy.”

Ramirez said following the game that if everything goes as planned Monday in his second rehab start with the Timber Rattlers, he will rejoin the Brewers on Tuesday with the hopes of returning to the active roster.
