It happened around 1:00 Saturday morning.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a serious crash on Cranberry Road just south of County Road D.
Arriving officers found a 2006 Pontiac Torrent had been traveling north on Cranberry Road. It had left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled over several times.
Passenger Matthew Rooney, 21, of Jackson, was ejected and trapped beneath a tree that had fallen as a result of the crash. He sustained serious injuries and was transported by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.
Passenger Michael Manteufel, 21, of West Bend, sustained moderate injuries which he received care for at St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend.
Driver Christopher Goneau, 22, of West Bend, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Froedtert Hospital where efforts to save his life were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Sheriff’s officials say both alcohol and speed seem to have been factors in the crash.
