ASHWAUBENON – The area’s only indoor skate park is now open in Ashwaubenon.
A grand opening and ribbon cutting was held Friday for the Ashland Ave. venue.
Besides the actual skate park, the facility also includes a skateboard and bike shop as well as a climbing wall.
The Green Bay Action Sports Organization started the project in 2012.
It took around $16,000 to make this happen. A lot of that money came from donations and fundraising.
FOX 11 got a chance to talk with the executive director of the facility and he told us why he felt the area needed an indoor skate park.
“I grew up in Green Bay, born and raised, and there’s really not a lot to do those 10 months of winter…10/11 months of winter for kids to get them out, get them active. This is a great environment to do that,” said Brian Schroeder, skate park executive director.
