National Police Week activities

APPLETON – The Appleton Police Department has a number of activities planned for National Police Week.

Monday morning, the Appleton Police Department honored police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Honor Guard raised a flag to pay tribute. Ceremonial taps were also played.

“I think the importance is to signify that this is not just a police event, this is a community event. Where it gives the community a chance to recognize the men and women who put on the uniform or the badge daily,” said Captain Todd Freeman with the Appleton Police Dept.

Appleton police will also host another event on Wednesday. A brat fry will be held in Houdini Plaza from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Fitted youth bicycle helmets will also be given away to kids at the event. Helmets will be handed out until they’re gone.
