MANITOWOC – Coming up this week, the SS Badger embarks on its first sail of the season!
The ferry’s first trip across Lake Michigan also marks the start of a million-dollar upgrade.
The federal government mandated the ferry operators reduce the ship’s pollution.
The ferry will sport new combustion controls to help it to burn coal more efficiently.
That is expected to reduce the amount of ash the Badger produces.
Operators aim to eliminate ash discharge entirely before the 2015 season.
