WLUK-TV named “Station of the Year” by WBA

MIDDLETON – WLUK-TV earned the top honor – “Station of the Year” – at the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association awards banquet Saturday night.

FOX 11 competes in the medium market television category, which is comprised of stations in the Green Bay and Madison markets.

FOX 11 General Manager Jay Zollar says “I am very proud of the work our team at FOX 11 does, and this recognition is for them.  Every day we work hard to bring the people of NE Wisconsin the best in TV and digital.”

In addition, WLUK-TV won 14 awards in individual categories, including four first-place honors. Both totals were the highest of any Green Bay television station.

First Place:
* Best hard news/investigative: State pays high rent for sex offenders
* Best continuing coverage: State pays high rent for sex offenders
* Best significant community impact: Suicide prevention
* Best public service announcement: American Heart Association

Second Place:
* Best evening newscast
* Best hard news/investigative: Welfare cheat
* Best sports reporting: Challenges, hopes of gay athlete
* Best use of sports video: All Access – Appleton North game
* Best editorial/commentary: Sitaminute* Best promotional announcement: ReportIt feature
* Best promotional announcement: Suicide prevention

Third Place:
* Best morning newscast* Best feature: Donald Driver surprises long-time fan
* Best live on-scene reporting: Ashwaubenon duplex fire

The WBA presents the “News Operation of the Year” to the station which accumulates the most points in the various news categories. The small market winner (Eau Claire/LaCrosse & Wausau markets) was WKBT-TV, La Crosse. The medium market winner was WISC-TV, Madison. The large market winner (Milwaukee) was WITI-TV.

The “Station of the Year” award also includes several non-news categories. Joining WLUK-TV in winning this award were WKBT-TV in the small market category, and WITI-TV in the large market.

WISC-TV also won the “social and digital media operation of the year” award.

The other Green Bay stations also won a variety of awards. WBAY-TV won seven awards, including three first-place; WGBA-TV won five awards, including three first place; and WFRV-TV won three awards.

WTAQ-AM won the medium market news & talk radio category news operation of the year award. WHBY-AM won the medium market news & talk radio category station of the year honor.
