JUNEAU – Jury selection was completed Friday afternoon for Brian Cooper’s retrial for the murder of Alisha Bromfield.
Court officials traveled to Juneau in Dodge County to pick the jury. The trial is scheduled to start Monday in Sturgeon Bay.
Cooper is accused of killing Alisha Bromfield and her unborn child at a Door County resort in 2012. Cooper claimed he was so intoxicated, he couldn’t form intent to kill Bromfield. A previous trial resulted in a hung jury on the charge of first-degree intentional homicide.
That jury did convict Cooper of sexual assault for having sex with the pregnant Bromfield after he shot her.
During a motions hearing Thursday, Judge Todd Ehlers ruled the jury can be presented with instructions for a lessor offense of first-degree reckless homicide, according to online court records. A decision will be made later on if the jury might also be allowed to consider a second-degree reckless homicide count.
