MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Gov. Scott Walker plans to officially launch his re-election campaign with a series of events across the state on Tuesday.

Walker has been inviting his supporters to attend the events, which begin early Tuesday morning in Dane near Madison and end Tuesday night at State Fair Park. He will be joined by Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch.

Walker’s campaign spokeswoman would say only that Walker and Kleefisch are planning a “special announcement” related to the campaign. Tuesday is also the first day candidates for office can circulation petitions to get on the ballot.

Walker is being challenged by Democrat Mary Burke, a former state commerce secretary and Trek Bicycle Corp. executive.

Walker was first elected in 2010 and then defeated a recall attempt in 2012.
