MILWAUKEE (AP) – Milwaukee police say four officers shot and wounded a man after he ignored repeated orders to drop his rifle.
The 31-year-old Milwaukee man was shot Sunday about 2 a.m.
The suspect’s mother called police to say her son was threatening to kill her and hurt himself. When the police sergeant and three officers arrived, the man came out of the house holding a rifle.
The officers kept demanding that he drop the weapon. After he allegedly refused, the officers opened fire, saying they feared for the safety of themselves and the people in the house.
The man was hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening. Police plan to refer him to prosecutors for possible charges.
As is customary, the officers have been placed on administrative duty while the case is investigated.
