GREEN BAY – A preliminary hearing was postponed Tuesday for a former Green Bay teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student.
Jer Lovaj is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child for allegedly touching at female student at Sullivan Elementary School. The preliminary hearing is now set for April 24.
Two reasons were cited in court for the delay:
* The state’s lead detective on the case is out of state and is unavailable to testify.
* Defense attorney Peter Heyne wants to review recent changes in how hearsay evidence is handled at preliminary hearings.
Lovaj was fired after the alleged incidents. He had worked in the district since 1996.
