Chilton principal honored

MADISON – A Chilton principal has been named one of four Wisconsin Principals of the Year.

Chilton Middle School Principal Richard L. Appel has been named the Middle Level Principal of the Year, the state Department of Public Instruction has announced.

Appel was credited for the staff he has hired and building connections with parents and the community. He was also recognized for his school’s goal to motivate reluctant learners.

Appel coordinates the annual middle school play, is involved in community service organizations and coordinates the Veterans and Memorial Day programs for the community.

The Principals of the Year are presented by the DPI and Association of Wisconsin School Administrators. Other honorees were: Lisa L. Rettler of Asa Clark Middle School in Pewaukee (Associate Principal of the Year), Jessica J. Johnson of Dodgeland Elementary School (Elementary Principal of the Year) and Asta Sepetys of Wisconsin Heights Middle/High School in Mazomanie (High School Principal of the Year).
