MADISON – Gov. Scott Walker has appointed a University of Wisconsin-Madison student to the UW System Board of Regents.

Nicholas Harsy, a junior mechanical engineering major, has been appointed the non-traditional student representative to the board. Harsy spent five years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including two tours in Afghanistan. Harsy received several awards, including the combat action ribbon good conduct medal and national defense medal.

“Nicolas has proven dedication to service and his natural leadership skills will make him a valuable asset to the Board,” Walker said in a news release.

Harsy’s term is set to begin May 1. The appointment needs to be confirmed by the state Senate.
