MILWAUKEE – A Marquette University spokesman told FOX 11 Tuesday afternoon no announcement on a new head basketball coach is imminent, nor is there any timetable for an announcement.

Current head coach Buzz Williams stepped down from his position as head coach this weekend, leaving to become the new head coach for Virginia Tech.

Despite reports that the University was close to hiring a new head coach, when asked for comment on whether or not current VCU coach Shaka Smart would be hired, the spokesman said he would not speculate on any candidates being considered, just that a decision was not forthcoming.
