The St. Norbert Green Knights men’s hockey team is making a habit of ending their season in the Frozen Four, with nine of the last 12 seasons finishing in the Division III championship weekend.
St. Norbert has made good on more than one occasion at the Frozen Four. The Green Knights are looking for their fourth NCAA DIII title in seven trips to the national semifinals.
The Green Knights take on a SUNY-Geneseo team that has six losses, as compared to the Green Knight’s three. It’s the first Frozen Four appearance for Geneseo.
The Green Knights have been shooting for this ever since last year, and have been getting more and more anxious to get back on the ice.
“In our weight room we posted on our white board, the road to nationals starts now,” said St. Norbert senior Joe Perry. “That was as soon as we lost last year so it’s been on our minds since we lost last year basically so…to be able to go back means a lot to the boys.”
“I just think this team’s got its best 60 minutes in front of it yet,” said Green Knights head coach Tim Coghlin. “I think we’re going to be able to pull together a better 60 and we’ll see how it looks [against] Geneseo at 4 o’clock on Friday.”
The puck drops for St. Norbert and Geneseo at 4 p.m. EST at Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine. UW-Stevens Point and Oswego State play in the other semifinal.
