BROWN COUNTY – Ice conditions on the Fox River in Brown County are quickly changing with the warmer weather, sheriff’s officials warn.
The sheriff’s office sent out its rescue airboat on Tuesday for training. Crews saw several areas of open water north of Allouez to the mouth of Green Bay. The boat, which is designed to ride on top of six inches of ice, broke through several times where the ice appeared to be thicker.
While ice around the Claude Allouez Bridge in De Pere is estimated to be around 12 inches thick, warm temperatures and river currents are causing ice conditions to change frequently there as well.
