Phoenix bring home 5 conference awards

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team won its 16th consecutive regular-season conference title on Saturday.

The team brought home some individual hardware on Monday.

Tesha Buck won Horizon League Freshman of the Year while Kevin Borseth was named Horizon League Coach of the Year.

It’s the eighth time Borseth has been named Coach of the Year in 11 seasons at Green Bay.  He led the Phoenix to a 20-8 (13-3) record and won the regular season crown for the 11th time in his career with Green Bay.

Buck led the team in rebounds (6.3), assists (4.3) and steals (1.6) per game and also scored 10.8 points per game in 16 Horizon League games this season.

Sophomore Kaili Lukan was named Second Team All-Horizon League, while her sister Megan was named to the All-Defensive Team.

Buck’s fellow freshman, Mehryn Kraker, joined Buck on the All-Freshman team.

The Phoenix begin Horizon League tournament play on Wednesday night at the Kress Events Center.  The team will host the winner of the game between Valparaiso and Detroit.  Wednesday’s game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip.
