MADISON — Both Kaukauna and Bay Port High Schools arrived at the UW Field House in Madison searching for their team’s first ever state championships. In the end, it was the Ghosts who wore gold, as Kaukauna won the Division 1 team wrestling state championship, topping Bay Port 39-22.
“It means everything,” said Kaukauna junior wrestler Robert Lee, who won his match at 132 pounds by fall. “It means a lot, everything, all that hard work we put in we finally did it we cashed in.”
Also claiming a state title was Coleman High School, their tenth in team history. They beat Spring Valley/Elmwood 39-22. Among the highlights were Dexter Karban getting a pin at 170 pounds and Donovan Salewski winning by fall at 220 pounds.
