DE PERE – The UW-Madison group Sea Grant announced $2 million in grants Thursday.
The money will go to nineteen colleges and universities throughout Wisconsin for Great Lakes research projects.
One of the schools is St. Norbert College in De Pere.
Biology professor David Hunnicutt is looking at aquaculture and how certain bacteria affect fish raised in a farm setting.
Hunnicutt says about $20,000 will help with supplies, staff, and research.
“Whenever we take a bunch of animals like that and put them in a more concentrated area, like we do farming, they get stressed, they’re more susceptible to bacterial diseases,” said Hunnicutt.
UW-Green Bay and UW-Oshkosh also received money from the Sea Grant program.
