HOWARD – A Brown County supervisor is backing down in an effort to move a plant that some people turn their noses at.
People who live near Sanimax in Howard have complained about the smells that come from the facility.
Sanimax processes animal by-products and food waste.
The Brown County Board was set to discuss possibly relocating the plant at a meeting Monday night, but supervisor John Van Dyke withdrew his request.
That’s because the company agreed to provide quarterly updates to the county on its efforts to reduce odors.
Sanimax also says it’s spent more than a million dollars on equipment, which has reduced the odor by 61 percent.
