OSHKOSH – The Oshkosh Police Department is looking to add another vehicle to its fleet.
A campaign was launched Monday to purchase a new Mobile Command Unit.
The 36-foot truck will cost $300,000.
More than $100,000 has been budgeted by the city to buy the vehicle.
Command trucks are usually used as command posts for crime scenes or natural disasters.
Police officials say it’s a key communication tool that could help out at large events.
“With all the major special events we handle every year it’s important for us to be able to have an operational hub to work out of and be able to control those events a little more,” said Oshkosh Police Chief Scott Greuel.
The department has not set a specific date for the fundraising goal to be reached.
