The Green Bay area will have a new state representative next year.
Republican John Klenke announced Monday morning he will not seek re-election.
“Four years ago I ran for Wisconsin’s 88th Assembly District seat to support Scott Walker’s agenda for Wisconsin,” said Klenke in a statement, “Today, thanks to Governor Walker’s leadership and the courage of the Wisconsin State Legislature, budget surpluses are the norm, tax cuts are routine, employment is increasing, and businesses are expanding. I am honored to have served in these historic times.”
Klenke recently came under fire for asking the state to reconsider the $2 million grant it gave Green Bay for the expansion of the KI Convention Center.
Klenke said the project shouldn’t receive state help if the city opposes a proposed Walmart store in the Broadway District. A FOX 11 Fact Check discovered the owners of Walmart have contributed to Klenke’s campaigns in the past.
The 88th Assembly District covers parts of Green Bay’s east side, Bellevue, Ledgeview and Glenmore.
