A Northeast Wisconsin congressman is asking the House Ethics Committee to review his actions concerning Oshkosh Corp., a company in which he owns stock.
A series of recent newspaper articles pointed out that U.S. Rep. Tom Petri, R-6th District, has advocated for the company while owning the stock. According to the Gannett Wisconsin Media reports, Petri wrote letters to colleagues in support of defense funding worth millions of dollars and a $3 billion contract for Oshkosh to manufacture trucks for the military. In some cases, according to the reports, Petri did not disclose his relationship to the company.
“Articles recently question my ownership of stock in companies and my actions on their behalf,” Petri wrote in a letter to Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Calif., the ethics committee’s ranking member.
“It is my honor and duty to advocate on behalf of those who live and work in my area; I am distressed by the innuendo in these articles.”
Petri also says he has contacted the committee for guidance in the past.
Petri is asking the ethics committee to review his actions and report back to him.
