Thursday will be the final day of the 2014 sturgeon spearing season.

Spearers hit the 90 percent trigger for adult females on the Lake Winnebago system on Wednesday.  The season will end at 1 p.m. Thursday, lasting six days and tying for the third-shortest season since 2002.

A total of 118 fish were harvested Wednesday on the Winnebago system.  That included the largest sturgeon of the 2014 season, a 161 pound, 77.1 inch sturgeon speared by John Skahen at Quinney.  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says 99 fish weighing over 100 pounds have been registered this season.
