MILWAUKEE (AP) – Federal loans are available to small businesses in Iron and Vilas counties that struggled due to excessive rain and cold temperatures last April.

The loans are from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Those eligible include businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses involved in aquaculture and nonprofit organizations of all sizes.

Those counties are eligible because they’re adjacent to Michigan counties that were especially hard-hit. The agency notes that disasters don’t necessarily stop at county lines, so counties that neighbor affected counties are also eligible for relief.

Those who qualify can get disaster loans up to $2 million with interest rates ranging from 2.875 percent to 4 percent. The money can be used to pay bills that otherwise could have been paid, but the loans aren’t intended to replace lost profits.
