MADISON (AP) – Bird watchers will get a chance to look for snowy owls in the Horicon Marsh this weekend.

The Department of Natural Resources and the Horicon Marsh Bird Club are offering an “owl prowl” event on Saturday. Participants will search the marsh for owls in the marsh during the late afternoon, listen to a presentation on owls in the marsh’s education center in the early evening and then hike outside to call owls.

The snowy owl is among the largest North American owls with wingspans approaching 5 feet. They usually remain in the Arctic all year but sometimes migrate south if lemmings, their main food source, become scarce. Unlike many owls, snowy owls hunt during the day.
