ASHWAUBENON – The UW-Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team showed they could win even on an off-night for their top scorer Keifer Sykes, beating UIC to keep the Flames winless in the Horizon League.

The Phoenix won 81-70, and were led by 20 from Alec Brown, still wearing a left shoulder harness from an injury 10 days ago. Sykes, who was held scoreless most of the first half, finished with 18 despite 4-15 shooting. The Phoenix also got a lift from Kenneth Lowe, who had eight points off the bench, along with five rebounds and two blocks.

Green Bay runs its record to 19-4, the most wins in a season in the Brian Wardle era, and are now 9-1 in conference. With 10 blocks tonight, the Phoenix broke the team record for blocks in a season for the fourth year in a row.

Green Bay will host UW-Milwaukee on Saturday night at the Resch Center.
