GREEN BAY – Even though the Packers didn’t play for the title, the big game is still a big draw for business in Titletown.
Although it’s a sight you won’t be seeing at The Bar on Green Bay’s east side anytime soon. You know, football fans watching football.
On Super Bowl Sunday, that even included some Packers fans ditching the Green and Gold for some more foreign colors.
For Packers fan Chris Duckett, rooting for the Seahawks was an easy decision.
“Wisconsin ties – got to stay loyal to the state,” said Duckett. “We got (former University of Wisconsin quarterback) Russell Wilson, (Seahawks General Manager) John Schneider – good old De Pere boy. So, definitely rooting for the Seahawks.”
For others, the choice to root for the Broncos and quarterback Peyton Manning was simple.
“I think he’s probably top five or top 10 all-time,” said Evan Bunker of Green Bay.
“Peyton!” said Kelly Percy of Ashwaubenon. “Oh yeah! He’s cute! And he’s a good quarterback.”
Percy says besides spending the evening with friends, the Super Bowl commercials are the most entertaining part. Especially when a Coca-Cola commercial was shot in Ashwaubenon.
“Being represented in the commercial, in the Super Bowl, it’s kind of cool,” said Percy.
While you might have had a tough time choosing which side to root for, or what flavor of chicken wings to eat, The Bar on Lime Kiln says the big game means big money. Even with the Packers watching this game from home.
“We’ve been busy all day long,” said bartender Maurice Phillips.
Phillips says the Super Bowl – no matter who’s in it – is good for the bottom line.
“We’ve also been doing a ton of delivery orders for wings and stuff for people’s parties and everything.”
But with football now over, Phillips says it won’t be long for business to pick back up.
“You start getting the college basketball crowds that come in, up until March Madness and then baseball’s starting up.”
And before you know it, football season is right around the corner.
