Laura Smith co-anchors FOX 11 News on the weekends along with Mark Leland. Laura comes to Green Bay from WJFW NBC 12 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, where she worked as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor. This is Laura’s second stint at FOX 11, having interned here during college.

Laura attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned a B.A. in Communication Arts, with an emphasis on Radio, TV and Film. She also has a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Madison.

Laura speaks fluent Italian. She took classes at Scuola Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy for a semester through Drake University’s study abroad program.

After college, Laura returned to her hometown of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin where she worked as a broadcaster at WDOR radio.

About a year later, she relocated to Italy, where she worked at the Associated Press Rome Bureau. There Laura translated foreign editorials for U.S. newspapers, and assisted in writing stories for the wire.

Laura has been recognized by several organizations for her work. She received an award from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association for her series “Kids in Prison,” which looked at teens incarcerated in adult prisons.

The State Bar of Wisconsin awarded Laura a Certificate of Commendation for her series “Circles of Support,” which examined the expansion of a state program that helps convicted felons transition back into the community.

Laura attended Sevastopol High School. After a couple of years playing sports, Laura turned her focus to the high school newspaper where she took on the role of editor. The publication earned numerous awards under her leadership.

Laura is glad to be living closer to home. Needless to say, her family is also thrilled to be able to watch her on TV.

In her spare time, Laura likes to bike, rollerblade, water-ski and snow ski. She also enjoys shopping, reading books, watching movies and traveling.
